  • Slow readers unite??

I get a little sad and envious when I see that people can read like 120+ books a year, and I can manage 12 if I try reaaaaaally hard.

I can't get any of the seasonal badges because reading that many books in that amount of time is impossible for me.

Any tips to not be so sad about it? I'm not looking for tips to read faster, honestly I've tried everything under the sun and I'm pretty much as fast as I'm ever going to get.

I'd definitely like to follow more people who self-identify as a slow reader, so I don't feel so alone đŸ„ș I'm definitely the slowest reader I know and it gets lonely down here 😭

Monstrilio is a book that is hard to move on from. Maybe because I lost my mom recently, and that sense of disconnection and unreality is still following me. The knowledge that you are not acting the way you thought you would, the fear that you are not performing grief the way people expect. Being gay and neurodivergent, I am also familiar with the suspicion that your true self is not correct, that the expression of your love is not correct, and what it is like to realize that at some point you have to give up the idea of who you or your family thought you would be. And how loving yourself (and your family loving you) regardless is a journey and the absolute greatest gift. However, I appreciate that this concept is explored through grief and the expression of emotion/self, as opposed to sexuality - despite multiple gay characters, I don’t think there is even one instance of homophobia and no one ever treats it as anything but natural.

    Beautiful, amazing, 10/10 book
