I agree with other reviews that this book isn't as good as the first and the main reason being the weird romance plot line. I got why the plotline was there but was just not convinced by it.
Otherwise, it's just as juicy and gripping as the first one. Sanderson is consistently a good storyteller. I felt like his writing style had definitely improved in this book, albeit still a very simple, plain prose which I don't mind because the story carries its own momentum, and clarity is his strong point.

Has anyone else spoilered themselves in a book forum because someone else's 80% of the book is in a different place to your 80% of the book? In a forum we're all likely reading different editions and therefore the percentages/ page numbers won't be the same. It would be good to put in a compulsory bit to fill in where you put what chapter of the book you're referring to. I'm getting to the end of a book and really want to see other people's reactions but I'm too scared to go in the forum because nobody is referencing the chapter, only the page number/% 😭

For some reason I struggled to get through this book, and found the first section (which was the history section) dry. I forced myself to read through this and I'm glad I did because it's an important and informative read. It's also a difficult read just because of all the misogyny that you have to read about- I ended up getting too angry to continue reading often (not a fault of the book, just the patriarchy). The opinion pieces towards the end were interesting to read. I would say this is a modern Western history of the clitoris as Chadwick only references American and European history and mainly refers to the Renaissance era onwards.

Do you guys take into account a book’s rating before deciding whether to read it or not? And if so, what’s the lowest rating a book can have for you to still want to read it? For me, if it’s a book I’ve never heard about before, I think anything below 3.5 is a bit discouraging, but maybe I’m too harsh😅

Okay so - I already owned a kindle which I bought 2 years ago, a 11th gen paperwhite, and it's perfectly fine. HOWEVER. Back when I bought it, I had no idea that other ereaders besides kindles even existed - which I could kick myself for, because I would've loved having a Kobo but by the time I learned about Kobos it was too late :') Ever since I first got my kindle, I was annoyed by how locked down it was, and how any time you're not in a book it's trying to sell you something, but I endured. Well! Fast forward to last week, and I finally got around to jailbreaking it and I love it now. I'm free from Amazon's shackles, and can load all my books onto my kindle without having them encrypted and it's so straightforward and easy. But it was only a few days after I jailbroke that I was like - okay, I need a backup incase anything ever happens to this one, since I know that of course Amazon won't just let us get away with this. So I went on ebay, bought a 4th gen kindle (the one with all the buttons on it) for $20, and not even two days after I bought that kindle there's an update that Amazon released an update that prevents people from jailbreaking and potentially even breaks kindles that are already jailbroken upon update (luckily for me, I already had mine set up to block updates, but it was a really close call). So I really patted myself on the back there for having the foresight to get a backup just in case. You might be wondering why I bought another Kindle if I was already complaining about Amazon's lockdowns, but trust me, I did my research, I knew my budget, and the 4th gen was the best pick for me - abandoned by amazon so doesn't get updates, fully functional, right AND left-handed buttons(!! Huge for me, as a leftie), and only $20 to boot. I was sold! And so it was only a matter of jailbreaking it, which is still possible since, again, it doesn't receive updates. I got it in the mail today and feverishly went through the complicated set-up and jailbreak process and voila, successfully running on KoReader and downloaded my books onto it. I love it!! I cannot even tell you how much I missed buttons and I absolutely adore the chrome casing. I'm so excited to read on it!

I'm positive a ton of people already know this, but a few of my friends expressed this was a new concept to them, so I figured it can't hurt to share. I don't have experience with other e-readers, so I can only say this works on a Kindle device. If you have experience using another device, please share!
When I read library books on my Kindle, sometimes I won't have a book finished by the time it's due, and then I can't renew my loan because there's a hold. In that case, I do the following:
The book is now returned so the next person can read it, but as long as airplane mode is on, your Kindle doesn't know that. You can continue to read your book without worry. As soon as you turn off Airplane mode, your book will no longer be accessible.
The downfall to this, is that if you're reading across multiple devices, airplane mode keeps them from syncing up. I tend to check out my max on books, get them all set up on my kindle, then return them all using this method. It helps keep library holds moving without the anxiety of having a time limit.
Hope this helps someone!

Hi! I’m pretty new to pagebound and loving it! I’m curious what the community thinks about listening to and audiobook whilst reading the physical book of the audio. I love doing it especially with Graphic Audio (if it’s available) because it gets me more invested in the world when I can hear the environment sounds or suspenseful music. What do you all think?
