I’m noticing that so far, with the exception of Mercedes who is an almost angelic figure, the women in this book are chiefly concerned with very materialistic things. Pretty dresses, jewels. I’m hoping this doesn’t continue on. Dumas gives such complexity to his male characters that it seems such a shame he should do a disservice to his writing to have such limited women.

Sorry, but I can’t stand it when Ellie talks about a romance trope. This time, forced proximity. Explaining a romance trope to romance readers??? It’s not the first time she’s done this. 😒

What was everyone's favorite Book from this year? I would love recs, but also just really interested. So far, mine has been a tie between Swordheart by T. Kingfisher, The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow and When the Wolf Comes home by Nat Cassidy.
