If you guys don’t know, Magical Readathon is a Readathon hosted by G at Bookroast on YouTube, and it’s so much fun! It’s essentially an RPG game where you make your character, pick a subject (‘Calling’) for them to study, and the lessons dictate which reading prompts you get. There’s also livestreams and games, and other little side-quest type things if that’s your thing.

This is I believe my 5th year participating, and I’m so excited for the Autumn one next month, G has just posted the prompts. I love planning which books I’m going to read from the prompts.

Does anyone else participate? And if so what’s your calling this year? I’ve just mapped out my prompts for it.

Who are the youtubers that you trust with your (book) LIVES. Anything they say about a book is gospel and their reviews are always on par? Or even do you have any recommendations for youtubers who talk about the plot of books…etc.

My answers to the above are cari can read, they are so entertaining and im relying HEAVILY on their ACOTAR forgot the plot series before the new books come out.

Genre omnivore (coined by CirKater (me)) = someone whi reads all genres and in between and the only criteria for a book to be enjoyed is that its good

Does any of yall fit this description? If yes, do you have a favourite genre? Is there any that you have higher expectations for or just don't vibe with that much? And share your (hopefully genre-diverse) reading lists while we're at it!

For me my favourite genre has to be high fantasy, the longer and more convoluted the better! I'm in the middle of like five 3+ book series and I am having the time of my life!

Funnily enough, my least favourite genre might be romantasy, as it tends to focus less on the fantasy parts and more on the romance. So the romance has to be really dang good for me to be able to enjoy it, which lets be honest is kinda hard to do in a way that pleases me.

My current reading list is: 💥The Eye of the World - Robert Jordan. THE epic fantasy series. For now its taking quite a slow pace (160 pages in and the main plot has not started yet🥲) but I am having fun with it and the worldbuilding is wonderful! 💥Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevski. Despite enjoying it a lot, I'm moving very slowly with it, but thats fine. I started in June and am curretly around 50%. Its not that its bad, but it requires me way more "brain power" than other books. 💥 The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula K. LeGuin. I'm only at the very beginning, but it seems promising! I love genderweird scifi, so it will hopefully scratch that itch. 💥 False History - Otto English. A nonfiction about common misinformation about historical facts and how those correlate with modern problems. Its not bad, but some of the chapters are not as interesting as others, and the author loves to show his opinions as facts. I agree with those opinions, but still, it is kinda annoying. 💥 Two books that are only out in Hungarian. An absolute garbage fantasy I am forcing my way trough to see how bad it can get, and an essay collection about writing as a craft.
