Book 3 in the Kingdom Below series. We get to see more of the world in this book, some more creatures, and I enjoyed that a lot. Also enjoyed the new aspects we got to see of the troll culture and their history.
Our FMC is a priestess and we got her story hinted at in the previous book. I really loved the setup and how we got to see the past chapters. (Even if the naive young version of our FMC had me wanting to shake some sense into her.) I think it was the right choice to start the story there even if that means we go over the events that happened alongside events in the previous two books. This setup, however, leads to some time skips in the overall story to get to the now, and I wished there was a little more body in the story there.
The MMC is so incredibly patient and a steady presence for her. I would’ve loved it if he saw the strength in her a little sooner, and that it didn’t need to be pointed out to him several times over by third parties. I loved his golden retriever energy though, and the silly, almost shy way he showed his love. I loved how he really knew her and the things she loves. The way he saw her in so many things made it just stand out that much more that he couldn’t see this one thing.
I loved how we slowly uncovered the FMC, her magic and everything that came with it. I think that added a really unique layer to the story and her character arc.
Ultimately this ended up being a 4.5 star read. I had a great time, but I missed more on page progression of their connection and her healing process. The way it was done now the healing felt rather abrupt.
So far in the series, book 2 is my favorite romance wise, MMC and FMC wise, and plot wise (which is rare for me to all fall into one book). Worldbuilding wise I loved this one most though, there were so many new aspects introduced and explored in here. Looking forward to the next one a lot with the set-up we got hinted at!

Book 2 in the Kingdom Below series. Book 1 I already liked a lot but this one took it one step further all over the board. Overall this series is more of a light fantasy read, but I enjoy them a lot regardless. The magic aspect of it and the worldbuilding we do get I find so fun and interesting.
Our FMC is a priestess and gets stuck in a very dire situation in order to attempt and save her sister. Our MMC has been stuck in the same dire situation for a very very long time.
I loved their journey together, and how their romance felt like a steady almost slow progression. They talked about things and what they wanted and it all felt like a hug despite the darker undertones in this book. The mental health aspect, their trauma and how it was all handled was so heartfelt. Who knew my favorite line in a book could ever be: ‘I want to finally have pigs.’
This might just end up being my favorite of the series no matter what else comes out, that's how much I loved this one. Five stars read for me, now I’m incredibly curious about the next one in the series and the setup we already glimpsed for that, so onto the next one!

Book 4 in the Deep Waters series and it continues to be good ^^. I loved the characters, the plot, the atmosphere, and the expansion of the world once more.
The FMC is a 6 feet 7 very muscled, very capable woman and I loved how she was written in this story. Her struggles and character arc were done beautifully and even though her size and appearance was unique within the human world he lived in, it was portrayed in such a way within the romance that never took away from her beauty or questioned her femininity.
Our MMC is a 19 feet (the size difference 🫠) merman with his own sorted past (and two 🍆). And even though the series is an interconnected setup with merman and humans falling in love in each book, Emma Hamm knows how to make each book feel unique and how to make the main characters truly their own person. This was also very much the case with our MMC. I loved his journey and the emotional undertone in it all.
This series is favorite after favorite and I’m equally sad and excited to dive into the next and final book of this series now (that epilogue has me very curious). Will definitely come back to this series over time to reread, and also will be getting physical copies for that (I mean those covers alone are stunning 👌).

Appreciation for the tall ladies 🫡
As a tall-ish girl myself, every time I come across an FMC who is described as tiny, I yearn a bit more for some tall FMC representation — we can be love interests too! 🥹😍 So I made this list of (mostly romance and fantasy) books with a tall FMC. Whether she is taller than her partner, or they are somehow EVEN TALLER than her, all is welcome here 🫶
I haven’t read every single book on this list, so please correct me if I am wrong somewhere. More book recs super appreciated!!! 🤍
