I have come across official Romantasy books lately that I think are more fantasy with a romance sub-plot as opposed to romantasy genre where the romance is the main-plot. I have this question - I don't mean to create dust and anger but wish to understand better: Do you think that newer fantasy books get mislabeled as romantasy and so are not picked up by readers because of the association with book-tok? And the ones who do pick them up end up writing bad reviews because they got disappointed? From what I have seen, a lot of epic fantasy does have romantic subplots and they are important to the story. But when it gets tagged as romantasy it affects the readership in this negative way of the expectations shifting and then not being met correctly. I would be happy to provide a few examples if you want or need some visualization of what I mean. And I am curious to hear if you know of some officially tagged Romantasy Book that you think are wrongly sorted into that genre and if you know of some books tagged as Fantasy only that should be in the Romantasy genre and why you think this might be happening if it is. 😊
PS :I am using romantasy as an obvious example and this might happen to other genres as well. Please do include your theories and observations about those as well.
EDIT Also feel free to leave in your recommendations for or againt this own here (hehe might bulk up my tbr as well)

I'm currently packing for a short 3 day stay at my friend's house to dog sit while she is away and have gotten to the inevitable part of the packing experience where I need to decide how many and which books to bring. As a mood reader that is a bit of a struggle and I know that I'm pretty likely to bring twice as many books as I'll probably even start.
But this led me to think of the question, How many books do you usually bring on a tripp, is there a planned tbr or do you just go off of vibes? Maybe you bring a little bit of everything for variety? I'm curious how do you pack your reading for a trip?

I love reading classic novels and as I was reading jane eyre today, it got me thinking, what books would you consider to be modern classics or what books do you think will become classics in the future?
I’m really interested in seeing what everyone thinks ☺️

Hey!! I loved reading seasonal books as it makes me appreciate the year more and stay present. I have a few Christmas books lined up but wondered if people know of any winter themed books not about christmas? So stuff about new years and later I could read in Jan/Feb to help with the cold months? I like romance only really (helps my mental health) and things like pumpkin spice cafe vibes. Both smut and non are fine by me!!

I read a lot this year, and in August I kind of started slumping but I was able to keep going by reading weird books I would normally never read, but eventually that wore off as well. I was fine with not reading for the rest of the year, but I know that if I don’t push myself out of the funk it might carry on for years (like it has before) SO:
If you have any fun, short, interesting books PLEASE let me know. I like romcoms to get out of my slump, but a fantasy will do as well! 🧡

I just read some excerpts from "Gespräche mit Goethe in den letzten Jahren seines Lebens", by J. P. Eckermann, and I was kind of surprised to see how much Goethe lauds "Daphnis and Chloe". Not that I think it's undeserving of praise, but Goethe goes so far as to call it a masterpiece, and that one should read it once every year, because it is so beautiful. What do y'all think of this? Do you think it deserves this high praise by the most well-known german writer?
