As a huge Gilmore Girl fan, I loved this and made me love character of Emily even more, knowing just how different Kelly Bishop is from the character, and how hard she worked to be able to become Emily Gilmore.
Listening to the audiobook narrated by Kelly herself, it felt so much more personal, as if she were sitting next to me telling me about her life rather than me listening to on my commute to work.
I started the book somewhat expecting a large focus of the book to be Gilmore Girls related, while that wasn’t the case, I’m not disappointed at all. Sure an easy google search would be able to tell me about her past work, but this memoir delivers so much more than the internet could ever yield. What the internet misses is all the background and story behind how she got to each role. It doesn’t say how parts of “A Chorus Line” were nearly direct quotations of her from the work shop or how her being too exhausted after rehearsals to wash her leotards led to Shelia’s costume choice.
I cannot recommend this enough to any Gilmore Girl fan and suggest listening to the audio for the full experience.
