Such a fun, cute read. Had several moments that made me giggle and kick my feet a little. The characters were all so fun, and well fleshed out, and very likeable. I LOVED Zale and Brindle just as much as Halla and Sarkis, which is high praise for secondary characters that don't show up until like halfway through the book.

My only gripe was the Act 3 conflict. I won't go into it for spoilers, but if you know you know, and other reviews go into my exact issue with it. It felt completely out of character. But it wasn't enough of a gripe to even subtract a star, so there's that.

I can always count on T Kingfisher to pick me up after I just finished a flop. Thank you T Kingfisher.

Would have been three stars-- good way to pass the time, didn't blow my mind or anything.

But I'm subtracting a star because Alice's chapters could have been an email. About halfway through the book I found myself skimming her sections because the constant run-on sentences, em-dash and parenthetical breakaways, and pointless flashbacks were so tedious.

Also that ending was very... blah. Cookie-cutter and predictable and too quick. Not satisfying at all.

  • How to Taste Coffee: Develop Your Sensory Skills and Get the Most Out of Every Cup

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

This is a really cool little resource. Includes a lot of the science of how and why coffee tastes the way it does, both at the level of the bean itself and in the neurological perception of it. Also includes some exercises for detecting various flavor notes, like acidity/bitterness, or fruitiness/nuttiness, etc. using resources that are relatively accessible to the average person. If you're starting your journey on becoming a "coffee snob" (I say affectionately, as that's how I've been describing what I'm trying to do) or if you just like coffee in general, I recommend checking this out! I read a copy from the library, but I might even go out and buy a copy now just to have on hand.
