Pascat has me by the throat, every time. It's been a minute since I've stayed up until 2am reading a book straight through without stopping but here I am! I've finished the book and have the second downloaded and ready!

Gosh. What to say. I just apparently am always ALWAYS in need of a good toxic queer tragicomedy with a side of deeply fucked up magic enabling it all. CS Pascat, Tamsyn Muir, Maggie Stiefvater and MXTX understand this need on a molecular level somehow. Love this for me.

Before getting into the critique, none of these issues really dimmed the experience for me. This was a wild ride and I didn't need it to be perfect. Perfection is overrated.

But I would say the main thing that caught me a few times was that the book moves Really Fast, a lot happens and has to happen to get the characters from the beginning to the end. And it pays off. The ending was extremely rewarding. But in getting to that ending in one book... I think something was lost in the depth of the characters and their relationships. Again it didn't detract for the overall experience or the ending, I'm happy to suspend a little disbelief around characterization but I could see it bothering others more. But I'm not leaving the book as haunted as I am still by Laurent, Damen, and that cast of characters. Maybe that will change with book two, I hope so! I live to be haunted by Pascats characters!
