What is your true "hidden-gem" book this year? Book/s that you stumbled upon (it could be your go-to genre or not) and randomly read, but surprisingly so good that it left a mark. And please tell me why š (I'm going to use this discussion as a rec š¤š¤Ŗ)

What are some books and/or book series you are interested but can't get yourself to read? I've been meaning to read Les MisĆ©rables for years now, but it's so long. I did start, and loved what I read, but dropped it, and never had the courage to pick it up again. š„² Babel and Poppy War are very daunting for me. I keep seeing people talking about PW here, and so I get reminded that I'm curious about it. I also want to read Malazan, but I'm convincing myself that I'll wait a few years until starting it, but I definitely will! š¤£

Hello! I am looking for translated book recommendations. I have already read Idol Burning, A Magical Girl Retires, and Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop.

What is your go to genre, and why? Also, what is a genre you don't actually read super often, but when you do, you always wonder why you don't read it all the time?

An introduction to the Horror genre, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.

Am I the only one who's starting to get tired of books focusing more on sex and which one is more depraved? I'm a fan of Dark Romance, but most of the books are becoming unreadable, At least for me...I'm not saying I don't do any sex scenes, but nowadays it's the whole damn book....

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a good cry. I think the last book that made me cry was A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, which I was not expecting. I'm currently reading Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, and I already know there will be tears.

No, I don't mean in a day. I mean, in a year. So basically, I've very recently realized that I don't read a lot of books outside of summer breaks and holidays. Throughout the whole year, I do a plethora of rereads but the only time I fulfill my short reading goal (because I only count books that are first time reads) is during the summer and then I have a whole lot of pressure to quickly find new books and then read them. Hence, the "short" reading goal, cuz otherwise I'll never be able to fulfill my annual aim lol. I suddenly realized this after joining Pagebound cuz I'm very active on here hehe and I discovered that I've completed a good part of my reading goal within only the past three months. The reason this is concerning is because I think it puts me at risk of going into a reading slump and I'm probably not able to digest the books I read properly cuz I'm always looking ahead for the next book. I think the Pagebound plan option is pretty helpful but I'm a mood reader so I never know which book I'll read next. Outside of summer, I somehow never get the time to start new books or it takes me ages to complete one if I do. Any tips??

This may be a no brainer to some people, but I've always had the habit of buying books when they come out, if it's a book that I've been really looking forward to, or even later when my bookstore has a sale. And I've since realized how common it is for people to pre-order books, sometimes months in advance, and also how important it is to support the author, but also for the author and bookstores to get a sense of how many people are interested in the book. Do you tend to pre-order books or just buy it when it comes out?
