Hello fellow book enthusiasts! I come with fair tidings and a question. Is there a opening line/scene/chapter that hooked you instantly? If yes, what is it? Is it your favourite and which book is it from?
For me, you cannot go wrong with the opening lines of Percy Jackson and the opening chapter of the Hacienda. Everyone is familiar with Percy Jackson and his "Look, I didn't want to be a half blood" but when you're reading this internal soliloquy from a Priest about God knowing nothing about loneliness while he's on his knees watching someone he loves go away, it hits harder. It literally took my breath away.
So what's your favourite opening?

I am struggling with this one. Its just not holding my attention, and then im lacking the motivation to pick it back up. Im not even having a bad time while I am reading it neccesarily, but its just so many disasters back to back that I cant find it in me to care about them when they will obviously get resolved. The stakes feel super low and the back and forth between all the characters is getting really tedious at this point. Not one of the 'couples' is actually together and we are 2.5 books in.

I found this book so captivating and moody in the best way. The magic system was so unique and although the characters felt young they didnāt feel completely oblivious, just traumatized and doing their best to survive. I did guess some of the plot points and twists throughout which took away a bit of the punch but I still enjoyed it! I was instantly transported to the world and sucked in with the mystery, romance and horror of it all! It felt like a very tangible gothic fairy tale. I need to get my hands on book 2 asap!
