Problematic Summer Romance

Not my favourite Ali Hazelwood story but still entertaining overall. I actually preferred the non-spicy elements of this book. I liked reading about Scarlett's therapy sessions, project and diving journey - it was interesting and cool! It was well written and I cared enough about the characters to keep on reading. I just wasn't a fan of the sexual dynamic between Scarlett and Lukas. I honestly just cringed a lot of the time and also found it so jarring that at any given opportunity there was a mention of Lukas being Swedish. It just felt excessive. I'm not dying to recommend that you should read this but I didn't hate it either. It was fine and enjoyable to some extent overall.

I love Lucy Score's stories! She really knows how to write a small town romance where I care about all the characters and the town! I laughed so much when reading this (especially that kitchen scene early on, iykyk). I also mostly enjoyed the dynamic between Harper and Luke, their chemistry was very spicy đ„. At times, I was rolling my eyes because I'm a bit tired of the narrative 'I love you but I'm scared to admit it so I'll just hurt your feelings because I don't deserve your love' đ„± booooo That being said, I can overlook that because I was invested in how their relationship would play out as well as the thriller/danger/mystery backstory part of Harper. It was well written and fun to read overall but at times it did feel like too much was going on which is why I ended up rating it 4 stars.
I prefer Lucy Score's other series, Things We Never Got Over, but I'm still looking forward to reading the rest of this one!

Absolutely loved this story! It gave me flashbacks to my teenage years and love for the supernatural era. It was so easy to read, so fun and ridiculously predictable but I adored it regardless. Lowe and Misery were great main characters and I enjoyed reading how their dynamic developed as well as the Vampyre and Were lore. The plot was entertaining overall and kept me hooked the entire time I was reading. Honestly, I think I could read anything by Alo Hazelwood and enjoy it. Looking forward to checking out more of her work!

I wonder if I would've enjoyed this story more if I was in my earlier 20s. I just found the main characters, Flo and Renée, so unrelatable and unlikable. I usually really like books with friendship themes but this one was not for me. Dawn O'Porter's writing style was not bad and I was interested enough in the plot to keep on reading. I wanted to know how Flo's and Renée's lives and friendship would progress. I hoped it would get better, but it didn't. The chaos and issues these characters had was overall unenjoyable to read. Would not recommend.

I really enjoyed this book! The structure was great - the different categories/themes and descriptions of each them before the anonoymous letters was really fascinating to read. The letters themselves were also raw, vulnerable, powerful and creative. It felt quite empowering to read so many desires and fantasies the authors of the letters had. The optional demographics at the end of each letter was also interesting to read as I wasn't expecting it. At times, it did feel a bit repetitive and uncomfortable. However, the way Gillian Anderson framed each section left me feeling more open minded than I had been before. Would recommend!
