Creepy crawling vines, sentient mushrooms, or a killer forest; no matter what shape they take, plants and fungi play a main part in these horror novels.

With basically limitless options, it can become hard to choose a book. I'm curious, how do you choose your next read? Is it through the cover? A recommendation? Book clubs? Are you looking for certain aspects in the synopsis that draw you in?
I'm usually a mood reader, so I don't usually have a plan for my next read. I typically will know which genre I want to get into and then I look for recommendations in a specific trope or plot that im interested in. So maybe a mafia dark romance, or a twisty psychological thriller, beginner fantasy standalones etc! I use reddit, TikTok and now pagebound for reviews and recs without much of plan, just vibes until one seems right. I do also love a beautiful cover and sometimes will take a chance on a read just because of the artwork.

How do you feel about DNF? I’m not liking one rn for a quest I’m in but I’m feeling guilty to DNF. Is it just a me thing?

Okay fellow Pagebound users I have a question for you! When you are reading a book what do you see? This sounds crazy but I had a conversation with my sister and we both agree we visualize the characters and everything that happens pretty vividly like we are there with the characters or maybe like a movie, sometimes even smells or feelings based on what we’re reading. however I asked another friend and they said they just see words on a page??? 🤔🤔I have done some googling and it appears there is a gradient of what people see when they picture an image or read a book? This is news to me as I thought the appeal of reading is to vividly hallucinate to, if you think about it….ink shapes on dead trees? Anyways wondering if anyone has anything to add to this lol - I may delete this as it might not make any sense but I hope it does🤔

How did you get into reading? I know maybe a simple question, but I got into reading because of my Godmother, she was a librarian for a school board and always gifted me books for Christmas and birthdays growing up. They would always be different genres and always something i would never choose myself. This made me really appreciate stepping outside your comfort zone to find something you may like (or may not like lol). Last year, we decided to share a read together and again it was something I likely would have not picked up myself, but I was left with that feeling of appreciation for stepping outside your comfort zone and nostalgia for the old traditions manifesting itself in different ways.
So how does your story go? Have you been a reader since before you can remember? Was there a teacher or loved one that showed you the joys of reading? Or did you stumble upon reading later on in life?
Tell me, I'm nosy!!
