I detest this child. She says she saw him when she didnât in fact see him. She creates a narrative in her head, filling in blanks based on the need to be the saviour/centre of attention. She opens letters that are for other people. And then all these adults blindly believe her with no other evidence except an embarrassing letter he didnât mean to send. This book is making me so angry!

This is a Japanese mystery thriller told through a series of interconnected stories. Each chapter works as its own little mystery, while also feeding into a bigger puzzle, all of which I did find intriguing.
The writing style is very simple, but also felt dry and clunky. The story is engaging and I did enjoy the picture element woven through the story, but there are some very big logical leaps that have to be taken to reach conclusions. You have to just go with it, but it does make the whole thing feel pretty unrealistic.
I think this is a book youâll enjoy much more if youâre happy to fully suspend reality. The idea is interesting, but it feels a bit gimmicky, and I felt the story never fully landed.
It wasnât bad. Itâs just not one that really worked for me.
