    Thoughts from 79%: Jim Dale 🎧 🪄

Listening to the Jim Dale audiobook on CD (!), borrowed from my local library 🎧

I've read the series many, many times, but my husband got into HP because of Jim Dale, so he said I absolutely had to give this a go.

It's been a true magical delight - he really has such a lovely voice for fantasy. He's just brought all these centaurs to life! So fun.

And it's really quite nice to have a well-known favourite read to you, very comforting ☺️

Finished it, hoping I would end up loving it. Did not :( This one was just not for me.

From the moment I picked up this book, I wanted to know what was happening - and by the end, I felt like I got the answers I wanted. Quite a few books have left me with unanswered questions and the feeling like I didn't get what I was after, but this one really satisfied a craving for me.

Switching between perspectives kept me engaged with the story, never getting tired of the narrator or feeling like I was being ripped away too soon. I felt like the plot moved along smoothly without over-explaining itself - and I liked the delivery of information through a podcast, a thing some have listed as a detractor to the early parts of this book. I didn't feel like it was out of character for Lucy to learn in that manner or that it was shoehorned in - none of the information she digs up during this story felt that way to me while reading.

I figured out Lucy and Jess' connection rather early on, but the book really kept me guessing as to how else they could be connected until it was confirmed. I wanted more out of the end of the novel, specifically a conclusion that gave me more between the two. I wasn't left with tears in my eyes, but I was pleasantly surprised that the book ended on a happier note.

The epilogue, however, made me so confused? I don't want to post it in my review, but it detracted from the end of the story. It really made me question Lucy's father and my trust in him. I wish the epilogue didn't exist so that I wouldn't have tainted my view of him.

Overall, I give this book a 4/5 stars. I probably won't be rereading it quickly, but it was a very good book.
