Oh, this was a rough one to rate as it is not for me. It feels very much like a racist, homophobic, and misogynistic John Wick movie with some (but not enough) character growth. I'm sure there is a key demographic for it, it just really was not me.

I feel like I just spent 12 hours watching one of those violent action movies my stepdad watches on TV on Sundays. I don't think the book was badly written—the action scenes are really dynamic—, but it definitely has a target audience and it has missed me by a mile. If you enjoy violence and CIS men slowly realising that discrimination is wrong and love is love, maybe you found your new fave! But if you're looking for a deeper read, you won't find it here. The fact that I didn't DNF this immediately proves I'd do anything for that shiny badge 🥀🥀 As a side note, the audiobook narrator is fire. Props to him!

Are we reading the same book….? This one is super popular right now as a dystopian breakout, but it just didn’t do it for me. Shallow word building, tunnel visioned characters, drama for drama’s sake. Out of no where we would get shock value trauma that’s hardly developed or dealt with and we’re supposed to just believe it for plot’s sake. The main romance was disappointing insta-lust within the first third of the book. The only character that felt real was Jameson tbh, but I didn’t even connect with him very much either.
I’m glad people like this, but overall wasn’t for me.
