Este libro es sencillo de leer y refleja super bien lo que es ser hijx de inmigrantes. Personalmente yo no comparto esa experiencia ya que no soy inmigrante, pero he escuchado experiencias de otras personas que me hacen pensar que se identificarían con Vivi. Además, la forma en que se describe Vietnam, a su gente, su comida, su historia, es bella, y verdaderamente me hace querer visitar ese país. Es el segundo libro que leo escrito por autores vietnamitas, y las dos veces me quedé super satisfecha con el producto. Espero poder leer más historias del mundo pronto

So heartwarming and made me miss a home that I have yet to visit!

Although I haven’t been to Vietnam despite having familial roots there, Nguyen’s descriptions painted such a vivid picture of Saigon and its streets, people, and culture. I love that the Vietnamese language was used and being able to read it made me feel a deeper connection to the story.

I related to Vivi SO MUCH: being Viet-American, living in California, having a parent who refuses to return to Vietnam, etc. Her relationship with her mother made me emotional and also made me wonder whether my mother and I will ever reach the stage that they did towards the end of the book. Vivi’s feelings were so validating, not feeling American enough yet not feeling Vietnamese enough either. I too have wondered how life would’ve been if my family had stayed in Vietnam and I had grown up like Vietnamese kids.

Lan being our main representation of the resilience and perseverance of Vietnamese people was so amazing to see. Carrying the burden as the sole daughter and dreaming of a life that seems out of reach were also very validating feelings to have. I think we Viet kids have trouble expressing our true feelings to our parents and it’s a back and forth of thinking we know what’s best for the other.

The romance and their relationship development was also cute! I love seeing women in love and supporting one another wholeheartedly through their endeavors. Lan and Vivi complemented each other so well and their interactions felt very meaningful.

Overall, this book will now hold a special place in my heart because of how personal it felt! I can’t wait to go to the motherland and see it for myself.

I’ve had A Bánh Mì for Two sitting on my TBR for what feels like forever, and when I finally picked it up, I ended up completely devouring it. Every bit of excitement I had going in was met and then some. This book is comfort reading at its best.

The food descriptions alone deserve their own love letter. Every few pages had me craving bánh mì, pastries, coffee and everything. Food isn’t just a backdrop here; it’s how the characters connect, remember, and express love. By the end, I wasn’t just hungry, I was actively wanting to book a trip to Vietnam and experience it all for myself.

But what truly made this book special for me were the characters. They’re gentle, kind, and emotionally open in a very quiet, believable way. Both leads carry their own vulnerabilities, insecurities, and hopes, and watching them slowly open up to each other felt intimate and sincere. Their relationship grows through shared meals, small conversations, and thoughtful gestures rather than big dramatic moments, which made it feel real.

I loved how soft their dynamic was. There’s patience, respect, and genuine care in the way they treat each other. They listen, they support, and they give each other space to grow. It was refreshing to read a romance where love feels safe and nurturing instead of chaotic.

The writing itself is simple but heartfelt, letting the characters and their emotions take center stage without overexplaining. Reading this felt like sitting in a cozy café on a quiet day, watching two lives slowly intertwine.

By the time I finished, I just felt happy, full in the way only a really good comfort read can make you feel.

A Bánh Mì for Two was absolutely worth the wait: warm, romantic, deeply comforting, and filled with heart. I enjoyed every single bit of it and already miss these characters.
