  • August 2026 Quest Update: September Buddy Reads & New Quest Books!!

August is already off to an AMAZING start and I have so many great updates to share with everyone trapped in the fever dream… I mean visiting the fever dream!! Visiting!!

    Buddy Reads

    This Month’s Buddy Reads

As a reminder, the buddy reads for August are House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, IQ84 by Haruki Murakami, and The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa!! It’s not too late to join any of these!!

Vote for October’s Buddy Read Picks

I create a new form each month, so if you have already submitted the books you want to do as a buddy read, you don’t have to fill this out again, but you can! If you fill it out again, it just shows me that you are still interested in it - but I keep track of all of the buddy read requests on the back end too! Link to October’s Fever Dream Buddy Read Requests Here (spoiler: the new books that will be added to this quest after I post this are already added to this spreadsheet! They are all at the top of the list labeled with NEW to help you quickly identify them)

    September’s Buddy Read Picks!!

I choose the top 3 books that have requests in from the google forms (include the previous months) and here are the top picks for September!! I have linked the title to its Pagebound page if you want to check out the descriptions!

*Note: All three have had at least one person say they are willing to coordinate, but it’s always nice to have multiple coordinators! Coordinators help kick off the buddy read, but are not responsible for facilitating discussions in the forums (unless they want to!!). You can find more information on the role of the coordinators Here

To sign up for a buddy read just comment under one of my pinned posts below with the book title! If you are willing to help coordinate let me know in the comment!

Bunny by Mona Awad Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

Audit Update and NEW QUEST BOOKS!!!

The Audit is off to a wonderful start! If you have received a Fever Dreams badge (or leveled up) but haven’t gotten your congratulations gift from Management (and want one) oooooor if you have no idea what the Audit is check out this post for details so you can help me cheat I mean pass the Audit!!

Perhaps you have spotted me flying, okay fleeing, down the infinite hallway with a swarm of large winged books behind me. Firstly, I apologize if I disturbed you. I was a liiiiiittle frightened when they first arrived without warning, but wonderful news: that was Management’s gift to us all for the Audit!! The Gargoyles say the only way to make them stop chasing me is to add them to the Quest - so add them I shall!! They did mutter me that this is “a test meant to break me” seeing as Management has sent enough books that someone could climb a whole level of the Quest with these additions alone or something. To be honest, I kinda forgot to keep listening after I realized I could share these books with the Quest if I could fashion a net big enough to catch them! (And maybe the Gargoyles are jealous of my new winged companions… but don’t tell them I said that!! I think I’m finally starting to win them over - they haven’t thrown the hats and scarves I knitted for them in the trash this time, so I think they can see how great of a friend I could be now!!) Anyway, here are the books that I’m going to try and catch right after this!!

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (Thank you @Ameliapei for being the first to recommend this book!) Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin (Thank you @meganori for being the first to recommend this book!)
Mad Sisters of Esi by Tasha Mehta (Thank you @theliteratepanda for being the first to recommend this book!)
The Nose by Nikolai Gogol Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (Thank you @squirtle for being the first to recommend this book!)

Oh!! And before I go, don’t forget that I made a Quest Recommendation Shelf Linked Here to make it easier to see if a book has already been recommended for this Quest! If you don’t see the book on the shelf, feel free to comment it your recommendation under The Recommendation Post Linked Here!

    Honeyfires: A Sapphic Romance

    Honeyfires: A Sapphic Romance

    Nora Fares

She wiped the starlight from my eyes. Petra Alves has survived things most people only see in nightmares. Two combat deployments. A field of wildfire. The weight of soldiers she couldn't save. She came back to San Jacinto, Arizona carrying all of it locked up inside her, and she learned to live there. Quietly. Alone. Running toward burning things because it was the only way she knew how to feel useful. She wasn't expecting Vera Montgomery. Golden-haired, blue-eyed, and dangerously optimistic, her new neighbor is everything Petra isn't. Soft where she's scarred. Warm where she's guarded. At home in a world made of books and vintage dresses and Jane Austen quotes. Vera is the kind of woman you look at once and never quite recover from. Petra knows this the moment she sees her standing in their hallway in a flower-print pink dress, guessing her name through a smile that makes the whole world tilt sideways. What follows is slow, and then all at once. Coffee and first dates and a kiss in a library that neither of them saw coming. A love that builds itself quietly in the space between two very different lives, until everything that matters most gets tested by fire. Because Petra is a helitack forewoman. She rappels from helicopters into active burns. She makes impossible calls with seconds to spare. And when a career-threatening wildfire forces her to choose between following orders and bringing her crew home alive, she makes the only choice she can live with—and loses almost everything else. Honeyfires is the story of what it costs to be brave, and what it means to finally let someone love you for it. It's sharp edges and soft hands. Nightmares and lavender baths. A woman who spent years surviving, finally learning how to stay. Explicit content. Guaranteed HEA. For readers who want their romance to wreck them a little before it heals them completely.
