The Cemeteries of Amalo trilogy by Katherine Addison (spin-offs from The Goblin Emperor) really seem to fit this! The Witness for the Dead, The Grief of Stones, and The Tomb of Dragons.

I'll add them! I've been meaning to get to the Goblin Emperor, especially since I've heard it's a similar vibe to the Hands of the Emperor which I loved! would you also say the goblin emperor should go on the list? thanks for the suggestions!!
I will admit, it's been so long since I've read Goblin Emperor, I don't remember anything about it. The trilogy does spoil events from it, though, so read Emperor first!
My favorite is Monday Begins on Saturday by the Strugatskys. It's hilarious.
