The first story in it is the titular one, about a young boy who grows up in a perfume family but it's dissatisfied with just making amazing perfumes with his magnificent sense of smell.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/317443.The_Poison_Master The main character is an alchemist which includes mixing perfumes as psychopomp drugs. It is a very good science-fiction – one that is permanently on my shelf and niftily ties back into Elizabethan Englands heritage of alchemy.
