I don't think Tomorrow, Or When The War Began is younger YA. I read it a couple of years ago, and I think the violence/gore would be fine for lower YA but it talks a lot about hooking up, and in the second or third it gets too graphic to be considered to be appropriate for middle school/lower YA.

I can completely understand what you're saying, and I probably need to reread it, but I remember we read it in class when I was in primary school (under 13). But that being said, we only read book one. I'll have to reread and reaccess.
