The Way of Kings 4.25 ⭐ | Words of Radiance 4 ⭐ | Edgedancer 3.5 ⭐ | Oathbringer 4.75 ⭐
18/05/2026 4.75 ⭐ I am very attached to my sleep schedule. I go to bed at 9 on the dot every night, and I never deviate from that. But this book had me up reading until midnight multiple nights in a row, muttering "just one more chapter, just one more chapter..." like a nutter. It took me so long to finish book 2, despite my enjoying it so I was a bit apprehensive going into this one, thinking it would take me forever too, but I blew through this in a week and honestly, if there weren't a bunch of other books for me to read in between this one and the next, I would happily jump straight into Rhythm of War right now. This is absolutely my favourite book in the series so far, but I get the feeling that RoW is going to be even better!

I'm planning on doing a blog post on a full discussion on the Lore Olympus series, so I was wondering if anyone has anything they really love or dislike about the series. I know some people have some really strong opinions on the series, characters, retelling style, and the writing, so I'd really love to hear what you all think of it, especially because I know there will have been things that I've missed in the past, and I'd love to try and analyse or notice them more when I do a full series reread.
I thought I'd make this post here on the first volume in the series because I think more people will have read it than the last volume, so if you have spoilery thoughts about future volumes, you might want to leave them here instead.

Hello. 👋🏻 I am looking for graphic novels reccs that are in total less than 400 pages . Preferably queer SFF but I am willing to branch out. Loved Snapdragon and Just between us by Adeline Kohn, v for vendetta.
(Preferably anything available on Global comix gold as I am broke rn)

Hi everyone, I'm making my own 100 Books to read in my life bucket list, and while I've thought of some books that I really want to get to someday, and included some of my favourites, I still have so many empty slots, so I need recommendations! I'm definitely more of a fantasy/sci-fi/mystery reader than a contemporary reader, but I'll try almost anything at least once!
Here's what I've got so far:

Today I treated myself to a fancy schmany coffee maker (a traitor to my user name I know) and have absolutely exceeded my daily recommended caffeine allowance because I’m so excited to play with it. It is currently 9:35PM and I am having another cappuccino!
But this got me thinking - does anyone else have a specific beverage that when they drink it, they can’t help but pick up a book and get reading? And if so, drop a recommendation and your current read!!!

Does anyone know of any books about older navigational techniques? Like the use of dead reckoning, sextants, maritime chronometers, etc. I've become really curious about it all, how it was done as well as the maths behind it, after reading some nonfiction books where it was relevant.

Do you actually get fully immersed when reading manga?
I’m trying to figure out if this is a me problem, a medium problem, or if I’m just reading it wrong somehow.
With books, I can get completely absorbed. Like, I stop being aware of my surroundings and the story feels like it’s happening inside my head. I’m not just reading words, I’m basically hallucinating the whole thing. And I get to a point where I forget about reality and I cannot put the book down.
But with manga, I’m usually much more aware that I’m looking at panels on a page. I can enjoy the story, appreciate the art, and care about what’s happening, but I don’t always get that same “I am THERE” feeling. I also don’t get hooked like I do with books. YET. I want to emphasize yet because I’m not giving up. I’m actively trying to find a series that makes me obsessed.
So I’m curious: do you experience manga that way? Do you get fully transported into the world, or is it more of a visual/storytelling appreciation thing for you?
And if you do get deeply immersed, how do you read it? Do you slow down, linger on the art, imagine movement/sound between panels, reread chapters, or does it just happen naturally?
What is the mental experience of reading manga supposed to feel like, and can I train myself into it?

On one hand, I like having a reading goal because it encourages me to read more consistently and gives me a sense of purpose. On the other hand, I find that having a target number subconsciously affects my reading choices. I might feel ambivalent about picking up denser classics, nonfiction, or books longer than 500 pages even though I love chunky books!
I've been trying to be mindful of that and prioritize reading what I truly want to read, but it still annoys me when I fall behind schedule in reaching my yearly reading goals.
I'm curious how you deal with this quality-versus-quantity issue. I miss the days when I had unlimited reading time

I'm about to start rereading and finally finishing the Lore Olympus series with my book club, and then I'm hoping to try and do a full review and discussion on my blog. I did make a post for vol 1 and vol 11, but those forums don't seem to get much attention, so I thought I'd try here too, but if that's annoying, I totally understand.
I know people have some really strong feelings about this series, and almost nobody is ever just meh about it - you'll either hate it or love it. When I did a post recently about the series we were voting on for my book club, I saw that a lot of people have opinions about the series, so I'm really curious to hear what everyone has to say - whether it's positive or negative!

So I've just started listening to audiobooks and tbh I was just making an exception for ONE book. Except now it's become a part of my routine and I look forward to listening to it. Now, this brings me to the title of this post: Welcome to Nightvale. Anyone remember it?! It was the first "podcast" i was ever exposed to and i was an avid listener for a few years, found a bunch of cool songs, and it always put me to sleep (in the best way). So it kind of reminds me of the same feeling I have now that i've discovered audiobooks.
I have three questions related to this topic... was anyone else a fan? And, has anyone found any books that captures the whimsical (sometimes dark) absurdity that was Welcome to Nightvale? Third question.... I know we have epistolary novels... but what about a novels written as radio broadcasts? That would be kind of cool. Right? Maybe? Any books like that in existence?
