There’s plenty of extra material online to read for a deep dive. As someone who enjoys video essays in particular, here is some of my favourites on YouTube that I highly recommend for diving into Dracula nonfiction! And spoiler warning for these videos they will discuss plots, themes—you name it, it will be there. If any of you loves have video essays to recommend others feel free to comment them below and make this a thread. 🦇

Nosferatu: For those interested in specifics to the 1922, 1979 and 2024 versions of the films. They are included as to me they are Dracula films even when their names are switched, it’s Dracula.

  1. That Time Dracula Sued Nosferatu - Kaz Rowe
  2. Nosferatu & The Gothic Appetite - Princess Weekes
  3. Nosferatu: Our Vampires, Ourselves - shasha not sasha
  4. An Exploration of Desire and Trauma in Nosferatu - Movie Good Or Movie Bad?

Dracula: Book and movie focused around Dracula in general!

  1. Bram Stoker and the Fears that Built Dracula - Kaz Rowe
  2. A Bisexual History of Dracula - verilybitchie
  3. Why Fandom Wants Mina to Date Dracula - Princess Weekes

A Side Note On The Lack of Vlad The Impaler Nonfiction Books or Video Essays I thought I would add that I did make a conscious decision to not include Vlad Tepes with the exception of one book (though I’m sure he will be mentioned in other Dracula nonfiction books). It is a bit of a misnomer that Count Dracula is solely based on Vlad Tepes. He had already created his vampire namelessly, the Count’s personality a combination of those in his circle (like Henry Irving in particular). I decided to focus only around Bram Stoker’s Dracula nonfiction based on the books and the movies that came after the book’s publication. Vlad Tepes I also think deserves to be/is better suited for a list dedicated to nonfiction on Romanian history. So whoever creates that, whether it be myself or another, I’ll be sure to edit this to include the list’s name.

First of all, love this creepy little list! Thanks so much for assembling it. 🖤🦇

Second of all, if you’re interested in recommendations, there’s a really macabre (yet morbidly fascinating) book called “Mummies, Cannibals, and Vampires: The History of Corpse Medicine from the Renaissance to the Victorians” that I think you and our fellow fang-tastic pagebounders would enjoy. The book’s second edition dives into the history and the science behind some of the diseases that contributed to vampiric and other monstrous tales!
