Here’s some fun facts and other reading I found while searching for Indigenous science fiction!
• Gerry William, author of The Black Ship, was the first Spallumcheen band member to receive a doctorate! The Black Ship is widely considered the first sci-fi novel published by a First Nations author. source • Russell/Russ Bates is a Kiowa writer who wrote for Star Trek. His short stories can be found on Internet Archive!

I found his name on an old SFF forum and went on a mission trying to find a collection but couldn’t! It seems he contributed to the animated series. The only place other than internet archive that I found his work was Star Trek: The New Voyages 2 edited by Myrna Culbreath and Sondra Marshak. His teleplay The Patient Parasites was included, which I believe is the first thing he ever wrote for Star Trek (but might be mistaken).
I love this list! I really enjoyed Darcie Little Badger’s Elatsoe for both its Indigenous and asexual rep—I recommend it if you’re adding YA books to the list!
