Clever, arresting and intentional SFF books by genre writers who really know how to play with and control language; not even necessarily immensely quotable or flowery, but wholly competent and meticulous.

omg yessss my favorite kind of list! if you're open to suggestions, i think mad sisters of esi by tashan mehta & the bloody chamber and other stories by angela carter both had really nice prose!
Ooh forgot about Angela Carter, you're right! Will have a look at the Mad Sisters, been thinking of reading it! For now I think I've got to limit this to ones I've actually read though else it'll get out of control lol 😭
lol totally feel that!!
tattooing that list under my eyelids, i don't think there's a single book i either haven't loved or am not interested in 💫
Have you read "The Starless Sea" by Erin Morgenstern? Seems up this alley!
I haven't yet, but I've had it for ages so I really should get to it; I read the night circus probably almost seven years ago now but don't remember it particularly well so need to revisit morgenstern generally!
I also highly recommend the audiobook if you’re into that! The cast is fantastic, I listen yearly. My #1 favorite audiobook.
I have to admit I've never really gotten into audiobooks because I'm too picky about how it 'sounds' to me and don't like being subject to someone else's idea of how to deliver lines lol, but maybe I'll give it try!
