Not all of us are lucky enough to live out and proud in big cities. This list is for those of us who live in small conservative towns, who still aren’t out, who can’t safely live our true identities in public. We exist, we’re not alone, and we’ll be okay. 🫂
These books have queer characters living in small towns, the countryside, and conservative areas dealing with the unique struggles such a place brings.
Recommendations welcome!

I haven’t read all the books in this list so please let me know if any don’t fit.
I would love any and all recommendations, fiction or nonfiction, especially with sapphic or trans characters, people of color, and books that are set outside of the US. Looking for relatively modern books, so no historical fiction please.
Thanks for checking out my list! Sending hugs and support everyone who can’t be their full queer selves because of where they live 🫂🩷
This list is awesome! I love the book country queers: a love letter by Rae Garringer

Thank you! Just added it! 🫶
What a lovely idea for a list — thank you for making it! 🏳️🌈💜 I think 🔗Woodworking by Emily St. James, about a trans woman in small-town South Dakota, would be a great addition here.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just added it! 💜
