This might be a bit of an unpopular opinion but… I kind of wish that the whole empyrean series was just a fantasy OR the MCs were just not at all romantic. Like I want the intrigue and the tension of hiding the secrets of Tyrrendor and the marked, I want to know the true history of Navarre and the unification, I want to know more about what’s happening in The Barren. I’m over the whole romance, the I love him but I can’t be with him. I just don’t really care about X and V love story as much as I do the whole world around it. Is this just me?

My first Discworld book, and I'm loving how funny this is!

A fantasy universe created by Sir Terry Pratchett, Discworld is a flat planet balanced on the backs of four elephants, which in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle. These are comedic novels that parody traditional fantasy tropes. All books can be read as standalones.

Does anyone else miss the days when illustrators would do amazing fantasy-scapes for book covers? My husband & I like to go charity shopping for older fantasy and choose based purely on the cover 😆 and I recently noticed how many book covers are by one artist: Geoff Taylor! His website is a treasure trove of older high fantasy and some sci-fi 👏 What's your fave book cover? 🤩

I’ve recently noticed that I’m the type of person who always had around 10 current reads (though tbh I’ve not touched some of them in months). I mostly binge something or I start something and don’t touch it for months (oops). But I do like having multiple books going on at the same time in general.
Are there any other people here who also read way too many books at the same time or is this a me thing?

I always enjoy reading the author’s notes, especially at the end of historical romances and especially if they share the names of some of the nonfiction books they read while researching the novel. I am always excited to add those to my nonfiction TBR. Recently I learned about a book called Sister Sleuths about female detectives and investigators in the 19th century.
Do you all read the author’s notes?
What is the most interesting thing you have learned in or because of an author’s note?

I start my new job at a used bookstore tomorrow! This got me wondering, what are y’all’s dream used/secondhand bookstore finds? A specific/older edition of a book? Just a cheaper copy of something you’ve had your eye on?
Right now my dream would be to find a copy of assassins apprentice in the older blue edition that shows up on pagebound! I’d also love to find a cheap copy of Monstrilio because I literally don’t know where mine went

I vaguely remember reading a short story in my highschool English class about a smart house, fitted with all this fancy tech that ended up turning on the owner. If anyone knows what this might be, please, please let me know!
It feels more relevant than ever and I really want to find it to read it again but I can't seem to find it online. I think it's an older short story but that's all I know.
EDIT: It is not The Veldt but I do highly recommend that story as well!!
EDIT: It might be July 20, 2019: Life in the 21st Century by Arthur C. Clarke!! I will update this after I read it to double check!!

Today's question is simple and fun. It's another round of random sentences. Open the book nearest to you, flick to a random page. What is the first full sentence?

Books with covers by Geoff Taylor the fantasy and sci-fi artist and illustrator. If you've read any fantasy books from the 70s/80s there's a good chance you recognise his work!
I've put just book 1, many of these are series!
