I love Jo, but I'm starting to feel like a lot of 'not like other girls' took her as an example😭😭😭

I first read this one as a 13 year old and even though it took me like a month, I'm looking forward to reading it again❤️ (I have to say though, I did not remember this book talking about morality so much)

I did not like this book. I may be biased because I do not know that much about the era it was written in, but yeah. I felt that atmosphere and gradual decline into madness I was promised just weren't there. This was purely ravings of a obssesed woman from the start and the writing was too meandering to actually build any sense of dread or mystique. The short lenght of the chapters balanced this out somewhat, but it was still bit of a drag to get through. The prologue was also bit unnecessary in my opinion. There were some good metaphores and 'is this real?' elements, but overall, I did not enjoy myself. (Personally I interpret this as madness, not the supernatural and that makes me really uncomfortable for the sake of the kids, I feel like there were some pedofilic acts insinuated in the past, but who knows. And the MC didn't help with that either.)

I know this was written in 1898, but if the narrator makes one more remark about 'the inferior sex' or 'how to make the highest tribute to a man' i will riot

This felt like childhood. The descriptions and overall easy atmosphere, the innocence and childish mindset... I loved it. Reminded me of the feeling I got when I was a kid with a book. The plot is nothing but kids going to the garden and benefits of playing outside, but the characters (human and animal alike) make it shine. One thing to consider before reading though: There was some racist and questionable stuff in this (especially in the beginning), which can't be excused, but bear the time period in mind.
