I’m ready to be brave and admit I just don’t care for Mariana Enriquez and I do not understand the hype.
Enriquez has 3 modes:
~Incoherent ramblings that remind me of listening to a coworker drone on about people you don’t know.
~Trying so hard to be edgy. (The killer had a boner! The teen had 4 abortions and the dog ate the fetus! The six year old was a drug addict prostitute! You’re a lesbo and he’s a f**!)
~Making the most obvious social commentary that positions itself like it’s deep while actually saying nothing. (Some people have BIG HOUSE and some people have NO HOUSE 🤯)
I hate how callously she sensationalizes real issues (homelessness, addiction, anorexia, sex work, disabilities) for shock value without actually saying anything about those issues. It's punching down, which I have no respect for.
I find her writing to be deeply unpleasant with no payoff. The stories are boring and meandering. They have no plot or ending. It feels like a cash grab from an author whose audience will gobble anything they do up.
