I found this book to be beautifully written, but also quite elusive. Some chapters made me shed a lil tear, while others left me feeling a bit lost because of the lack of a clear storyline.
The themes that were explored were very interesting to me, especially the idea that the narrator might never have existed if her sister had lived. The final line of the book being: “I will breathe in the final breath you released” will definitely stay with me.
The poetic nature of this book is definitely its greatest strength but at times that same quality made it hard for me to fully connect to the story.

Second coming of age book about Japan that I’ve read this year… conclusion: it’s rough to be a teenage girl (over there)
Good coming of age story about neglect, although you don’t fully grasp everything until the end because we experience it through her pov… which I think was done very well
