This kind of sentence structure has been driving me nuts: “It’s just you understand what you’re to do. You understand why you’re to do it.”
“Are to do, are to be” it’s so so awkward y’all I hate it.
I don’t know if there’s a name for it (would love a linguistics person to chime in here) but it kind of feels like a variation of passive voice?? Pierce uses it all the time. I guess maybe because it sounds kind of fancy?? I don’t know. Just use a verb in a normal way! 🥴
Did anyone else notice this as they were reading?
