Morgenstern’s prose is doing something to my brain and I’m not entirely sure I’m in control of the situation anymore. It’s lyrical without being obnoxious about it, and it has this dreamlike rhythm that makes me stop reading mid-sentence just to sit there and stare at the wall for a second.
Do I keep rereading lines like I’m trying to decode a secret message? Yes. Is that normal behavior? Probably not. Am I stopping? Also no.
Everything feels layered in a way that could be literal, symbolic, or both at the same time and I’m just supposed to deal with that apparently. I added this to my TBR after hearing about it via an interaction on here and now I feel like I’ve willingly walked into a beautifully written trap.
Because now I need her other book immediately. For science. Or survival. Honestly unclear at this point. But also I need time to get through this one because I can’t rush this or it’ll go over my head.
