Howdy, y'all! I'm looking for more short stories to read. I'm a lover of sci-fi, fantasy, anything that follows the "wouldn't it be weird if this happened!?" form ,but I am open to anything. I'm ok with audio (story podcasts included), print, digital, any form. Has anything ever stuck with you? Let me know, I want to list these in my commonplace book.
For tax, Megan Chee's "The God of Minor Troubles", read by Wil Wheaton on his It's Storytime podcast has lived rent free for the past year-ish.

What book(s) do you have muted and why? I want to hear it all from the silly to the serious.
I'll go first: I have the Heated Rivalry series muted because I am on here at work quite frequently and I can't have NSFW book covers coming up on my feed all the time! I did notice now that they have the more modern illustrated versions coming out now, so maybe I'll be able to unmute them eventually.

So, I personally love fantasy, either escape monotone reality or to have fun!
Lately, though, and this may be due to me now being older (i started reading more when I was eleven or so), i feel like fantasy these days is now just romantasy. I know I live in a place where there isnt much of everything, and the closest bookshop is two hours away, so maybe I'm not as informed as everyone else. But still, i feel like the fantasy tag is now forgotten. Its hard to find anything from this decadd that doesn't include a romance, but mostly, an ☆♡ENEMIES TO LOVERS♡☆. Its like fantasy authors dont know what else to add. So they just splash romance in it, for the views. I know that because I miself, an author, did that (i must say that the book i added romance to was never published because either way it was my first ever wip and it was trash 😅) and ended up not liking it, so I dare to assume there are other authors out there who feel obliged to do so too. I must add, though, that even if in the past few years I haven't tried looking for fantasy, since I’m exploring new genres out there, I have read a few (like 5) good romantasy books, so I still have hopes that authors know how to do it well. Or at least well enough that it doesn’t end up being a modified copy paste of another one. Like, even the covers are all the same. Same arrengment of objects that are similar and same font. Same color scheme (within sub genres it changes colors but they still all look alike in that subgenre as well), same vibes. I have even heard the description of a whole series of fantasy book being "if you like the first one you'll love them all because they are the same thing over and over" and I know there are people who like it this way, since its always within their taste, and reading has always been something about enjoying what you like, so it is really fine. But it kinda proves how books have now becomed yet another thing to exploid and turn into an overcomsumist hobby due to Internet always pushing people to ReAd moRE bOokS and MAke biGger rEadiNg gOals and blah blah blah, so it ends up being some sort of race, of something you must show to the world and earn likes to. Anyways, that was all.
Ps: I am really truly sorry if anyone is hurt by this, i have nothing against no one specific nor I hate the genre or authors who write it or people who read it. Al I did was say my opinion about it, and you Are all free to do so too, because thats something we SHOULD be able to do without fear in this community. Stay strong bookworms!

Hey frendos!! How are we all finding the new year? I hope you've entered 2026 with some joy & rest!
Would any of you be interested in doing a Color of Magic readalong/buddy read? I've seen the miniseries but have not read it yet, so was thinking of starting it the first week of February (2026). This is very flexible if others wish to join but need more time to clear current reads or acquire a copy.
If you're interested, either as a reread or finally getting to it yourself, please let me know & if the first week of February works for you!
Edit: I will post again with updated time lines tomorrow, but we are a go! We will start in February and go through March, but of course read at your own pace, and if you need to start earlier or end later totally do! 💕
