A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.

This series NEEDS more hype! The first hundred or so pages of this book are a bit slow, but after that this becomes one of my favorite fanasy series ever. The world building is literally so delicious and I would die for the chracters. I am so sad I don't have more people to talk to about these books.

I'm really enjoying the linguistics part (which is the reason why I started this in the first place), I just wish the relationships between the characters were better flashed out, it feels like we're skimming through very important years of their lives without seeing much of it and it's not like there's no space for this cause the book's super long </3

Hoid MAKES this book. Without his narration, it would honestly be really boring, but he is so stinking funny and engaging in the best way possible. There was one point when he paused the whole plot for a paragraph to praise Tress for not jumping to conclusions and I laughed out loud in public. All of that being said, Tress is also really fun because she feels grounded and ordinary. I haven't seen many charcters like that and it was really neat. Pirates are also the best thing ever so that gets a 10/10 and I love the friendships in this book. The romance is good too, but not as compelling as the platonic relationships.
