What an incredibly sad, hard, and raw book. Half His Age is not something I think we’re necessarily meant to enjoy, but Jennette McCurdy tells the story in such a unique, shockingly honest way. Absolutely brutal and uncomfortable, it’s vulgar, heartbreaking, cringy, sad, and frustrating all at once. Jennette McCurdy’s writing nails the chaotic inner thoughts of the main character, and I couldn’t stop reading—even when it got gross or heavy.
It’s a worthwhile read if you can stomach it, tackling heavy themes like sex, the cycle of abuse, loneliness, modern life’s mundanity, consumerism, misogyny, power, and more. It’s explicit and often gross on multiple levels, but intensely compelling.

What did I just read… 😳
Chapter 66 has me sitting here like ??? I was not prepared for that at all. I even had to reread it just to make sure I didn’t imagine it.
This story really said, “expect the unexpected,” and it meant it. I don’t even know how to feel right now. I’m all for bold storytelling, but this one missed the mark for me.
Curious if anyone else had the same reaction—or if I’m alone on this one.
Anyone else shook—or is it just me??

A warm hug in story form… with a little sea breeze of magic.
I loved this book so much. The characters are wonderfully unique and lovable, and the children completely stole my heart (and honestly the whole show).
What I appreciated most was the message about acceptance and letting people be exactly who they are. Arthur creating a space where the kids can use their voices instead of hiding them felt so meaningful.
Cozy, magical, funny, and surprisingly emotional—this story swept me away like a gentle tide. I finished it with the biggest smile.
Some books are good… but this one is cerulean-ly special.
