What is it with Alix writing ugly characters that are still attracted to one another 🤣

Too much filler and random side crap that amounted to nothing. For an “epic conclusion”, there wasn’t a whole lot of memorable moments to be happening. I understand the Sanderlaunche but this one just didn’t hit as much as the others have in the previous books. I’m also very disappointed that he basically used the same idea to get two main characters out of a sticky predicament, made the 2nd one much less impactful

Enlightening! I love historical fictions that have little nuggets of real history woven in. I never knew about Chinese immigrants in the Caribbean, how Caribbean women were offered nursing positions in the UK, or how cultures can bleed into one another.
The writing of this felt fresh, altering from not only different POVs but different timelines as the mother tells the story of her life. Not only do their main characters have POVs, but you get little insights from side characters as well, making each character feel more individual.
