A really fantastic, well-rounded read. The feminist movements in this really got to me, especially with our current political climate of how one small change can be just the start of the loss of womenâs rights and freedoms. Homaâs story was particularly so empowering, to which then I kind of wished we had more of her POV. I see why the author though chose to write the majority of their story through Ellieâs eyes. I think the author did well in portraying how being anti-political or woefully ignorant can harm more than one would think. I also appreciated learning more about the different political regimes that had occurred in Iran to show how they got to where they currently are. No surprise that US involvement rarely goes well in foreign countries đ.

I loved this so much. You would think reading from the POV of a tortoise in the same estate her entire life would be boring but oh my gosh, this book had so much heart â„ïž. The people she meets, the hardships she endures, the social changes throughout her 100yr+ life all bring so much life to her story.
A must read for animal lovers!
