  • Why did you pick your username?

    Mine is alienshe.

It’s one of my favorite songs from the punk band Bikini Kill but also I feel like an alien who was planted on this hell called earth. 👽🛸👾

  • PB Reading Speed Appreciation Post 💌

I love how people on PB are so supportive of everyone’s reading speeds. I’m a fast reader and it was really hurtful to see posts and comments on other social media about how people who read a ton of books every year must be cheating or skimming or aren’t retaining anything from the books they read and being generally insulting.

I’ve found that people here don’t even pay attention to how fast or slow others are reading and I love it especially because I don’t think anything of slower or faster readers than me. I only notice what books people are reading. I love that on PB we are all reading at whatever pace makes sense for us and we are here because we care about reading and discussing books with others. 🫶🏼

This book is pretentious AF and I spent most of the book entirely annoyed.

There is no right or wrong way to love books. Whether you: • Read to escape • Read to learn • Enjoy critical analysis • Prefer head-empty vibes • Like being scared • Read to find comfort and hope • Remember in detail every book you read • Immediately forget the main characters name • Only read critically acclaimed books • Only read comics, manga, and graphic novels • Reread frequently • Never reread • Own a large collection you've only read a fraction of • Keep rare and precious books in a safe place • Precariously stack your collection in window sills • Read physical books • Read digital books • Read audio books at x3 speed • Read 25 books a month • Read 1 book a year • Read books just so you know what the hell your coworker is talking about • Read books literally no one else has ever heard of • Read because you can't go there yourself • Read because you have been already • Read because you want to do • Read because you never could • Write in the margins, highlight, tab, or otherwise annotate • Do everything in your power to preserve the spine • Intentionally break the spine • Use your book as a wallet • WHATEVER ELSE, you are a valid reader and it's entirely unreasonable for anyone to suggest you love books more or less than anyone else.

A lot of the arguments made in this book are sooooo surface level they become infuriating. Books mean something different to every person, and that's why they're so great. To assign this grandiose larger meaning, within a prescriptive framing, is such BS. You do you, boo. Read however and whatever you like.

Also everyone in this novel is just mean. For why??

This is a beautiful and valuable guide to du'as. The eloquence and sincerity the Sahaba and pious had while making du'a to Allah is truly enlightening. It made me realize how to elevate my own du'as and include things I would have otherwise overlooked.❤️

May we also have a strong bond with Allah and never lose it. May our voices always be recognized in the heavens, and all our du'as be granted. Ameen. 🤲🏼

logically i knew what i was going to read in this book, but everything she going through is...literal torture. what the actual fuck is going on in the world, why do people hate people. i am feeling deflated and also inspired which is a confusing combination. my stomach turns.

finished two chapters in one sitting! that was... truly devastating and utterly heartbreaking. my heart hurts with each and every page i turn because even though it's set in syria, i can't help but get reminded of what's happening in palestine or our world's situation in general... also, i find it interesting how khawf symbolizes salama's trauma and grief in the form of hallucination.

looking forward to see how this story goes. i just know i'll be crying a river by the time i finished it.
