Another Amazon First Reads, prob my favorite this year so far. Easy read with a slow start, picked up towards the middle, and the ending was maybe a bit rushed. I wish we’d gotten to know the MMC and bit more and this hadn’t been as cliched but there were some fine moments. Not particularly laugh out loud or swoon worthy but decent.

For those that have consumed this story in multiple forms ... What do you think of the adaptations? I heard the movie was generally considered a poor one, and would love to know who shares that opinion and why! Is the show actually better given Riordian's involvement, and is it worth watching?

I want to like this I’m… intrigued? But not sold. I’m having a hard time finding the rhythm of this book. And it just already feels a bit “self-helpy”

For me, I think just about every movie adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo is unbearable. When I finished reading the book, I rented the 2002 adaptation to watch with my grandma and throughout the entire movie I was just yelling at the screen and turning to her explaining all of the parts they left out or things that never even happened in the book that they added in, and by the end she was laughing because she said she didn't even really get to watch the movie from me ranting the whole time LOL
