Yall. Please tell me this gets better. I'm pushing through because it's a book club BotM pick (discord- Splatter Squad) but this is đŹ.
I want to like it. But the hive gives me the heebie jeebies. And the writing style is meh.

Was not invested in the story or the characters. Lots of smut that had the potential to be really cool, but I didn't feel any motivation or goal from the main character. He just showed up and was like "yeah, magic, cool! I'm open to sexual experiences" ... and then there were sex scenes but there wasn't any connection happening between the characters? The sex was the method to cast a spell (cool idea but unclear function, that could have been more explained), not to forge any kind of meaningful tie to other people. So... the sex was kinda boring. Why create magic? What's it for? Why do any of the characters need magic? Considering sex was like 30% of the 37% I read, I'm not interested in continuing.
I picked this up just because some others were reading it (classic cliterature), wasn't something I really had interest in myself.

This book? Sapphic as can be. Magical in a way that Iâve always needed. And honestly? If youâre into New Adult Fantasy thatâs incredibly sapphic, I highly recommend you not only read this book but also be friends with the author.

I don't know if I have ever instantly loathed a teacher this much. I was lucky to only have a few a-hole teachers in school... and they were almost exclusively math teachers... is this a thing?

Iâll be honest â I went into Tapout with low expectations because Iâm not a sports book person. I know absolutely nothing about UFC fighting, so I wasnât sure this one would land for me⊠but wow, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
This book is visceral in every sense of the word. The fight scenes arenât just written â theyâre felt. You tense up, you flinch, you feel the impact right along with the characters. And when itâs not punches flying, itâs hearts fluttering. The awkward flirting and early tension between Laila and Harlow had me both cringing and smiling like a fool.
The spice? Excellent. The emotional beats? Raw and grounded. Both characters feel very human, flaws and all. Laila can be extremely immature at times, but that made her growth more believable. And Harlow â sheâs the kind of protective, grounded character who quietly commands the room. I adored her loyalty, especially her fierce love for her nieces and nephews. Those family moments really got me.
If I had one lingering question, itâs this: how exactly did Harlow bankroll this whole operation to begin with? But hey, if thatâs my biggest nitpick, that says a lot about how much I enjoyed the ride.
