Loved this so much!! For a novella it felt paced just right and the main characters are so satisfyingly neuro-divergent. Can't wait to dive deeper into this universe and hopefully see these characters again

Although I found the pacing and the writing to have hiccups at certain parts, I loved the narration of this. Nhung's voice was incredibly heartbreaking to follow and relatable in many aspects. And while this story is of course focusing on a trans lens and the metaphors are beautifully executed, it transcends its own messaging and becomes universally applicable for all readers, especially girls and women. The sexual violence and Nhung's feelings of guilt and shame and dissonance with their own body is an all to familar feeling and the conflicts between children and their parents can hit close to home. Overall, this was an incredibly powerful read!!

First cozy fantasy read (SPOILER for the first few chapters)

As someone who finished this last year as my first ever cozy fantasy read this was an absolute rollercoaster to me. I remember it quite fondly now and I will pick up the new 'prequel' that came out recently but when I first started reading I absolutely hated it. I was wondering if anyone with experience in the cozy fantasy genre could share their opinion on this book because it really threw me off how the MC was only mildly upset about the rebell group torching the library and having to evacuate across a sea full of dead bodies. Is this like a normal reaction for cozy fantasy MC's? Is that even smth that should be in cozy fantasy? That confused me a lot in the beginning because I felt as if the tone was way off for the story but maybe my suspense of disbelief was not dialed up enough for a cozy fantasy story. (I started enjoying it a lot after like 40% or so but i have not picked up cozy fantasy since)
