do you have any to recommend? this year i want to more intentionally support smaller and indie publishers. they tend to select books that are more off the beaten path and aren’t concerned with what will mass sell commercially, and i want to put my money towards that! a few that i love are NYRB and McNally Editions for their rediscovered classics and Two Dollar Radio for their fun and unique picks.

Well this was an adorable series. I like how this ended with Asahi and Hinako figuring out a way to be in each other's lives that wasn't super stereotypical or that caved to the pressures of society or people in their lives. It was nice to get an ace couple with both characters on the aro spectrum!
I was glad Hinako and her mom were able to sort things out, and that overall there was a happy but realistic ending for other characters, too.
While I liked this series, it never totally wowed me. It touches on several relatable, realistic topics (e.g. how money impacts social relationships, living under capitalism, figuring out your identity in a world noisy with social cues, figuring out how you want to live your life) in a cozy slice-of-life format but doesn't dive too deep into any of them. Reading the notes at the back, this is the author's first multi-volume series, so I'm going to attribute the light touch to that.
Slight knock on the rating though because the ongoing jokes about attraction between Subaru, who's underage and very often refers to herself as a child, and Fuuka felt slightly icky to me.

Loved the space to get to know Fuuka and the chaotic and brash energy she brought to the story. I like how Shio Usui writes these forceful female characters (Subaru and Fuuka). Loved the dyke drama of this volume overall!
The dynamic with Asahi and Fuuka was a little heart-breaking; Asahi is a sweetie who has a Lot of Stuff going on internally, and I wish her and people like her the ability to trust themselves more and think about their own needs and wants.
