Reading this book in between some dense fantasy series was the palate cleanser I needed.
This book was incredibly cozy and wholesome. Octopuses have always been one of my favorite animals, so I was extremely enthusiastic to read Marcellusā PoV.
This book had me wishing I could be besties with Tova and join the Knitwits. I miss living in Seattle.

This is honestly the absolute definition of a perfect beach read. I completely devoured Poppy and Jackās banter! As a neurodivergent woman myself, I had no idea this book had that representation going into it, and it was such an amazing surprise. I felt so seen and related to Poppy so muchāthank you for writing her this way, it truly meant the world to me. :)
The chemistry between them was everything. I was literally giggling and kicking my feet the entire time! Poppy has this bright, vibrant energy that never feels overwhelming or eclipses everyone else, which is so rare to find. And Jack? The ultimate "grumpy black cat." He is officially my top book boyfriend right nowāhe was so fascinating to figure out, and honestly, incredibly attractive.
Also, the food descriptions were next-level. The way Grace wrote about their cooking made me want to jump right into the kitchen and try the ingredients myself. Watching Poppy and Jack collaborate on the Fable menu felt so incredibly real that I kept getting lost in their world, matching their excitement step for step.
I know people are comparing this to The Bear, but I donāt really see it. The Bear gives me major anxiety and focuses heavily on intense family trauma, whereas Yes, Chef has family trauma... but maybe dialed back a little.. OK A LOT more. It just makes me genuinely happy! :)

So much wisdom written into a beautifully heartfelt book.
I adored these characters, and certainly one of the most beautiful portrayals of the found family trope I've read.
This felt like such a perfect cosy balance, while still confronting bigotry with candid commentary.
I get why it's a crowd-pleaser and fan-favourite, and happy to say I finished as a pleased fan too.
