Thank you to Netgalley, Avon and Harper Voyager for this ebook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own and not influenced by this.
There was plenty I enjoyed. I loved the humor and Molly and Aster’s chemistry. I enjoyed their friends and the banter that their friendships had. I enjoyed that the relationships between each character felt separate and had chemistry that didn’t feel like they were friends for the sake of the story. I enjoyed meeting Aster’s friends like Molly was. These are huge strengths that the story has.
Onto the book and the plot itself. I generally enjoyed myself. The one thing I wish was different was that the before sections were focused on after school and showing their initial love story, not the way before as enemies in school. I would have loved to have seen them actually fall in love twice. I must admit, the scenes of them as enemies in school felt repetitive. We knew they were enemies and that they had accusations against each other, we didn’t need that drawn out in scenes when they could have had conversations about it. Molly’s initial feelings about him also made it very clear that they were enemies, that did plenty to drive the point. The scenes probably would’ve been better if we had already known the characters and context, but we don’t get that in a standalone book.
This is nothing against the book itself, I did like it, I just wish they focused on a different part of their timeline. It would have made other parts of the book and reveals feel more impactful because we would’ve seen how Aster fell in love with her first.
This is purely my opinion and I’m sure others may not agree. Mostly my two cents.
Outside of the book, the main matter I want to give feedback on is that the trigger warning page should be at the front of the book, not the back. Most books have it in the front, so I was a little confused seeing it in the back. In general, I feel like all readers would benefit from seeing that page before getting into the story so you know what to expect. Especially because miscarriage is within this book, and that is a trigger that is more serious than others. I was personally okay, but I know some people who wouldn’t pick this up because of that and wouldn’t appreciate finding that out after buying.
Overall, I think this was a strong debut for the author and I have a newfound appreciation for the amnesia trope. I previously didn’t like it very much, but this story changed my mind on it.
P.S- the “WHERE IS MY WIFE?” is something that’s totally entering my vocabulary. I loved it!

do y’all have any recs 👀👀
i’m going to be moving to school in a few months and it would be so nice to have a nice armchair/big beanbag/loveseat smth that is big enough for like a 5’11 person (altho i am not that tall) to fully stretch out or curl up. i might try to go to estate sales but if not i think this is an investment i’d like to make up to 500$. this might be a stretch but does anyone have a chair/brand they love they would recommend? i’m even looking at the big joe bean bags they look the most comfy and big.

I’m going to start by saying that overall, this book was a fun ride. I cringed a little bit, but I laughed way more, and I consider that really important. I adored our two main characters and their dynamic. I’m a huge fan of fake dating so my take on this will always be more positive, but I really liked the application. Sometimes books like to force it in there, but this didn’t feel forced at all.
I will say, I didn’t have a least favorite character. They were all enjoyable in their own ways. I adore the friendships that our FMC has, and I generally had a really good time. Their friendships were seriously goals. I also enjoyed the magic system and how it works. I don’t think I’d be good at it if I was in this world, but that’s the fun of it. It was cool to see.
Overall, I’m happy, and I look forward to the rest of the series.
