Now don’t get me wrong, I love this series BUT this just pissed me off. The romance didn’t really hit the mark.
I’m mad at the characters. Mainly Mac. I know everyone is coming after Annie for holding a grudge but if you fell in love as teenagers and made a promise to meet up one year later and were stood up, I’d hold that grudge forever too. It’s your first heartbreak.
Plus he didn’t actually move away! He was staying close by. Why not talk to her?? And then trying to see her at a party and not talking to her then?? Then he fucks off for 8 more years (supposedly still in love with her). I don’t buy it.
You don’t do that to people you love. They could have had 11 years of learning and growing TOGETHER. He didn’t even really apologise. She told him to go away once and he gave up.
Will I read the next one? Yes. But this just didn’t work. Two timelines can work but I found it so frustrating getting to the event that broke them. And I think they needed a little more from the teenage years to show that they fell in love.
