Thank you for all the suggestions of prompts to put in my TBR jar! I thought I'd share the final list I came up with in case anyone else wants to do this too: * Title starts with one of your initials * Alliteration in title or author name * Part of a series * Spine matches my outfit * Finish something you paused/DNFd * Memoir * Non fiction (not a memoir) * Something that intimidates you * First on the shelf * Last on the shelf * A gift * Owned 5 years or longer * By an author read once before * Owned in multiple formats * Monochromatic cover * Published before you were born * One word title * Five word title * Something epic * Highlighter coloured spine * Vibe of the current season * Short stories or essays * Gothic energy * Author has a backlist of 10+ * Set between 1950 and 2000 * Set between 1850 and 1949 * Set before 1849 * Under 222 pages * Over 444 pages * Strongly recommended * Something mysterious * About the chaos of fame * About the arts: music, art or literature * A person's name in the title * A retelling * About siblings or friends * Most popular colour on shelves * Least popular colour on shelves * Set somewhere with cuisine I love * Purchased in 2025 * Adapted to film or TV * Bought new * Set ouside the UK and US * Features magical creatures * Written by a male author * Plants on the cover * Features death/grief/tragedy * POC author * By an author read from 5+ years ago * Cover is opposite to your last read on the colour wheel * Less that 50 pages longer than last read * Title starts with an author initial from last read * Published in a different decade to last read * First letter of title matches last letter of title of last read * Same spine colour as last read * Author's name starts with same letter as author of last read * Spine is the same colour as the author's name of last read * Title has 2 more words than last read * Set in a different country to last read * Author comes later alphabetically than author of last book * Author comes earlier alphabetically than author of last book * Set in a different century than last read * First letter of author's name matches last letter of author's name from last book Excited to start using these!

I run the "get to know me" staff board at my library and I recently asked them this question! I loved hearing their answers, and I thought it'd be fun asking it here! What book would you take to a deserted island (in other words, if you could only ever read one book, what would it be?) Mine would probably be Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

I can't tell if I'm getting old or hard to please, but istg p much every book that I pick up bc its super popular or has raving reviews is just SUPER lackluster? Like I can't do booktok bc most of them I wind up returning. All the Bright Places, Emergency Contact, They Both Die At The End, Shadow and Bone, etc. It gets worse when I'll check the reviews on goodreads and it got stellar reviews and I'm sat here like 🤔

I finished Talking At Night last night and while I still haven't stopped thinking about it, I'm struggling to find the words to articulate just how special I though this book was. Before I get into it, be warned. Claire Daverley is stingy with the punctuation. There are no speech marks (something I'm not usually a fan of) and the question marks are on the light side. This book made me feel big feelings at every step of the way. I don't really want to describe what and why - I think like you'll enjoy it more if you go in blind. If you loved One Day and/or Normal People this will be right up your street (specifically because of the emotional turbulence, emphasis on character development over plot drama, and the eternal, inescapable connection between two characters).

I have a pretty stacked physical TBR at this point and in 2025 I'm on a mission to get from 338 unread books to 200. One idea I had to keep it interesting/stop me from falling prey to my mood reader urges is to create a prompt jar to help me pick my next reads. Does anyone have any fun prompt ideas?

Lately, I’ve started reading more books in English. It’s not my native language, so sometimes I come across words I don’t understand—and that can pull me out of the story. 😅 To help with that, I thought I’d start a little vocabulary notebook where I can keep track of the tricky words I find while reading. It’s a small step, but I’m excited to see where it takes me. 💬 Have you ever tried something similar when reading in another language?

i was a voracious reader, but until 2025, i wasn't reading regularly. part of it has been other commitments, but i realize now that i was reading books i didn't like LOL. after reading banger after banger, my itch to continue reading has become akin to how i felt as a kid discovering libraries for the first time. so: i've decided i will no longer force myself to read books i don't enjoy. i will now let myself dnf books so i can continue reading stuff i actually like 🤣 if you're looking for a sign to drop a book you're not enjoying, here u go !

What's your favorite genre or subject? Subgenre or focus? Trope? Why? I always go back and forth between fantasy and scifi, but ultimately my favorite genre is scifi. I really like stories with clones and mind downloading/transfer, and the stuff that makes you ponder identity and what makes us human. My favorite tropes will forever be slow burn and enemies to lovers though, so I usually end up reading more romance for those ❤️

I think most book lovers have have that one underrated fave they’re dying to scream about, especially when someone mentions a super popular book that gives off a similar vibe. Like, you’re low-key mad that the book doesn’t get the love it deserves and you wish that every person who likes a specific popular book would also read this less popular book. So I thought it’d be fun to start a post of “If you liked X, then you’ll love Y” recommendations. I actually have a pile of recommendations so I’m happy to start: I think if you liked the Throne of Glass series, then you’ll love the Kindred’s Curse series by Penn Cole or the Shadows & Crowns series by S.M. Gaither. Also, if you liked ACOTAR, then you’ll love Artefacts of Ouranos series by Nisha J. Tuli or the Broken Prophecy series by Anna Applegate & Helen Domico. Also, I'm happy to add recommendations to the book page! :)

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.
