I was interested to read about speaking and writing, and what it means to be subject or object in the context of our culture and oppression. This book was informative and speaks on a variety of issues. I was inspired to reflect on my own ideas about expression. I’ve been praised for quietness and ridiculed for speaking loudly or in conflict with others. I think about times I wish I had spoken, and times I’d judged others for their delivery. I’ve benefited from women who have found their voice.

I enjoyed the writing style of this book. I am greatful to the author for sharing her experiences, I think that it is important to hear from people like her. It can feel safe to other those who have been abused and been in cults, thinking “it couldn’t happen to me”. But that’s not the reality. The power of manipulation and of abuse needs to be addressed by systemic protection of people.
