It’s like a car crash I can’t look away from. The mental gymnastics required for June to feel justified about her actions are ASTOUNDING. So much second-hand embarrassment here.

First thing I can think to say about June is, the audacity??
Based off the synopsis I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but I was feeling empty after finishing Babel so I picked this one up on a whim. As I’m reading so far I’m wondering who the author might see herself in in this story: is she Athena? or is she the narrator? Maybe a combo of both or neither. Either way I’m enthralled already.

I find it very difficult to revisit books I’ve already read. Even if I thoroughly enjoyed a book, I’ll read some reviews, chat about it, maybe watch a video or two, but I’ll very rarely read it again. My fiancée asks me if I have an explanation for it, but really I’m not sure.
She rereads books all the time and she tells me it’s like chatting with an old friend again. She has her comfort books, and will often go back to them if she’s feeling a certain way or is finding herself in a reading slump. But I can’t relate to this at all. I’ve been trying to get back into reading, so if I go back and read something I’ve already read, maybe I feel like I’m missing out on something new? I only have so much free time in my schedule.
There are times when I’m reading a book and I’ll think “I bet if I went back and read this from the beginning I’ll notice so many hidden details” but then I never do. Maybe I should try picking up an old favorite again.
