Hello y'all! I just wanted to create a post where we could all talk about our favorite local bookstores and gush over them! You can talk about why you love them, give out recommendations, etc.
I'll start with saying that I love Powell's and Book with Pictures out here in Portland, OR.
I specifically love the Powell's location in Downtown Portland because of how big it is (4 floors!!!) and how the bookstore is organized. I find it very easy to navigate and I always feel like I've done a full workout once I leave.
I love Book with Pictures because it's a comic store that caters very specifically to queer, BIPOC, disabled and neurodivergent folks. It's queer and woman-owned and I just feel incredibly safe there as a trans hispanic person. Also, it's BEAUTIFUL inside!
I haven't visited yet but I plan on visiting Parallel Worlds, too. It's a fantasy and sci-fi bookstore (and some horror I hear 👀) with used and new books. I'm hoping to visit this year for my birthday.

Rating (Based on Personal Scale): 3.5/5 – A well-written book, just missing that extra something for me.
My Take: A Wild Ride of Twists, Symbols, and Secret Societies
Thoughts & Feels: Okay, so The Da Vinci Code? This book grabbed me from the prologue and didn’t let go. Dan Brown really knows how to build momentum—every chapter ends on a note that makes you say, “just one more,” and suddenly it’s 3am. I’ll admit, some of the plot twists were a little dramatic, but I was fully along for the ride. I loved the blend of history, religion, art, and conspiracy; it made everything feel high-stakes and layered without getting too dense.
Langdon was... fine. He’s kind of the classic cerebral lead—smart, composed, a little dry—but it worked for this type of story. Sophie had her moments, though I wish she had a bit more agency throughout. The real stars, though, were the puzzles. I ate that up. All the codes and historical references made me want to pause and Google things constantly (and I did).
That being said, the pacing sometimes felt like a rollercoaster on overdrive. So much happened so fast that I occasionally wished the story would just breathe. And okay—some of the revelations were a little much, but I was still entertained, and that’s what I wanted out of this book.
If you're into fast-paced thrillers with a heavy dose of mystery and historical intrigue, this one delivers. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely fun.
