anyone else feel like there was very little emotion and an almost clinical outlook to her situation and experiences? as a character driven novel i kept wanting more from her personally if that makes sense.

this was hard for me because it was character driven over plot driven. i usually can get into those after a while but my main problem here is despite being character driven i still feel like i didn’t know the character at all. jeannette had a very removed pov from her experiences and i felt like her emotions were limited which in a character driven novel that should be where i feel the most. her romantic affairs with melanie and the later girl (name forgotten) never were detailed, and i don’t mean smut i mean emotionally i feel like i never got invested because she didn’t seem invested. jeanette was raised in evangelical cult christian family and preached often but the scene where she is undergoing an exorcism and finally decides to leave the church felt clinical. there was very little emotion and the story left me wanting more from both her feelings and my own towards the story.

the characters were great but i hate how speed run the romance is. it’s why i didn’t like the first book either.

Every time I read, I thought the story wouldn't get any worse, but oh my, I was so wrong.

compared to how much i loved 'we could be so good' and 'you should be so lucky' this was.... disappointing. characters and plot fell flat and the side characters were also undeveloped
