I really love the kids and their relationship with Linus so much it’s going to hurt so bad when the dystopian part of the book starts to become more important 💔💔
On a separate note can we talk about that? This book is always sold as a cozy fantasy which it certainly is but it’s also laying on the dystopian themes very thick, like, from the first page. I think it’s really interesting how that slips out of what this book is recommended for because I think it’s actually done really well!! It’s realistic and morbid but still digestible for younger audiences, babies first dystopia if you will.

Besides, it was a perfectly lovely day. Perhaps it would do him some good to be outside in all this sunshine.
Ten minutes later, he wished for death.

He couldn’t believe it was only Wednesday. And it was made worse when he realized it was actually Tuesday.
So real Linus. So real.

This book is moving so fast, I know it’s not and never claimed to be a slow vampire-esque story, but for the small moments of that classic vampiric seduction between Joséphine and Laure the book provided to be so good and yet so sparse I can’t help but wish it lasted longer. It also feels like we keep skipping through stuff in a way, like to not see any of the Giselle rehearsals and for the company auditions + results to happen in one maybe 1.5 chapters feels weird. It’s not necessarily a bad thing as it leaves a lot of room for the story going forward but it is surprising, I wonder what the actual plot is going to be.
